Ive decided to not use the Tas DC++ hub

Unfortunatly for me, i am a victim of continual corrupt downloads with the DC++ software.
It seems files i download have a 50/50 chance of being corrupt.
Im not going to debate the reasons as the reasons dont really matter unless i can find a definite answer.
Though i will say this, If no other file sharing program does this, i say its DC++ fault. Now I could disable all firewalls (which i have for weeks) i could disable network shares, i could disable anitvirus and all the rest that could be doing it, but if i have to do that to share my files with others, then id rather not share.
Seeing especially, its only DC thats having the prob, now without, i can run my firewall and not have any probs.

I know i am not the only one this happens to, and im sure its really annoying to have to download everything twice or worry if its corrupt or not.

For now i am going to try Porksters shareaza, as its got serveral users there already and it works. The multisource is good, I have seen it in action and would be a huge bonus if there were more users.

Phil did try a Emule hub, which seems to work ok, except for some users behind a LAN. Though i never had any trouble.
Im sure its all just a little time to sort out bugs.
if you want to try emule on phils server. you will need emule plus http://www.emule-plus.com and you will need to add his server to it.
there is no chat at the moment, though you can add users to your favourites and PM them. there is also a built in IRC client, but there is no IRC server running at the moment.

I am currently logged into both shareaza and emule for now, sharing 12kb/s each so its up to you guys if you want to change over. Honestly i think DC++ is way behind the rest, without a good corruption handling system and no multi source.

instructions for emule
1. download and install, keep this seperate to your regular emule client.

2. open you address.dat file in notepad and remove everything.

3. once you start emule, go to the servers section and remove all. then add the "nstashub.no-ip.org" on the standard port 4661.
setting it to static and high priority.

4. In preferences/server you can uncheck "remove dead server after"
remove "auto update serverlist at startup", "update serverlist when connecting to servers and clients and then check the " reconnect on loss" and the "autoconnect to servers in static list only and "autoconnect on startup"

5. Under preferences/directories. select your download location for finished files under "incoming files" then select your temp files location.
make sure these are difference to your normal emule settings.
you can select your normal emule temp directory to be shared in the "shared directories" list. This will allow others to download parts of files you are downloading.

6 under preferences/directories "see my share" select "everybody".

the rest of the settins are up to you.

You need to make sure you use a fresh installed client, so you dont corrupt sources with external sources.
IN the latest Alpha of the standard emule client there is a basic IP blocking. which you can use if you not sure. though i dont think its needed. this should be in the next verion of emule plus anyway.
this setting is pasted in the "IPfilter.dat" and as far as i can gather is set like this.

000.000.000.000 - 210.15.194.255 , 000 , everyone
210.15.197.000 - 255.255.255.255 , 000 , everyone

ive stopped using it aswell, i can just never get a slot for anything i want, after my first month of netspace im like 3 gig download 9 gig uploaded

5 users in the Emule hub today, which is looking good.
Phil us know the progress with emule, if you found a better server, if you found someone to run irc and if you think its worthwhile?

Phill, start a shareaza group and I will join that. I don't know why your bending backwards to build something that is already going. You have to realise that this isn't personal and I will be happy to join a shareaza group if you make it or if eMule is better. I hope you can do the same.

If it is the attitude of Netspaces' to schwobble(spelling) then unlimited plans are for me. Currently there are some great people that have trusted and making a good group in shareaza.

I left dc a while back for the same reason people are now and that's its functionality and it being not relative. I had massive problems with file availability and when the files were there they were corrupt.

Issues with shareaza group(being honest)

* Linux users, would have to use a win32 emulator (wine) to maybe run shareaza or another advanced linux gnutella1 client.

* IRC chat which isn't as good as dc chat room for p2p, but emule will be similar problem. users will have to wait for shareaza to get a inbuilt chat facility in new client release.

* Browsing, well users will have to get used too "defined file shares" as LAN or real harddrive file lists as in dc are not the norm.

* Firewall problems, well any p2p program, including dc, if a user has not configured a port, they will experience issues with connecting to other users. In shareaza, you need to have the client set up to act in hub mode and on your firewall open PUBLIC traffic on port 6246 for tcp and udp. It's that easy and for people that had problems in the past, I ask you to have another shot. There was a time when we/I might have asked of the wrong settings which caused problems. We have ironed out all and it's working perfect.

can some one please tell me how to setup a win2k ics server to work with emule. i Have looked at it and can't figure the phucker out. Would be most grateful for the help.

no offence dude, but windows ics bites..

If you can ditch it in favor of winroute, or winproxy.

Sorry about the lack of helpful info, but a better app will save you pushing ics uphill. :wink:

It's very rocky on 2K in that if you don't set up the settings in the correct layers you will have ICS fail.

Don't have a IP predefined/binded against your network card's protocols. Then use the wizard to setup. Then a each other machine linking to the ICS hoster, goto their internet exploer options/connections and do the wizard for where they get there internet from.

last one was from sponge.

it didnt say it was corrupt, thats the prob, they complete fine.

its not until you burn it or run through cdcheck.. the image even burns ok, but all the files have crc errors

Actually I take that back. I did have one corrupt file recently - LOSV, /me checks logs.

It downloaded okay, but when I went to install via daemon tools it said that the whole maps dir was unavailable (insert disk with file X, blah blah).

I recently downloaded this file again, this time off Sponge.

Anachronous, have you checked everything in your installation? Looks like it might be a problem at your end... :cry:

If you look at this honestly and logically. ZoneAlarm causes zero problems on any other software out there.. So it's VERY unlikely it's Zonealarm fault, but it could be still ZoneAlarm being incompatibile with DC programming.

The problem I can see with DC is that people are using various client versions which may have different techniques/cores to CRCing filing checkss.

Also DC is rarely changed from the offical model so the open sourced versions are very limited on what they can change. So, if DC has a very limited file hash/CRC check, then when it compares files it will make mistakes and give you wrong matched data.

Have you guys tested VPNing as it may give better results than DC, if you want a hard drive style file structure.

all i can think of is its a network issue, as all my shares go through the network.

What it comes down to though is poor handling from DC or corrupt files.
as i never get them through other clients.

It could be my end, but i wasnt running ZA on that machine, it was unfirewalled.

Well when I was using dc all those months ago, it was here and there fro errors. like I would get a few good file and other times all bad. I downloaded impossilbe creatures cd three time off johnd and others and all failed. It was hard enough to sit there and wait my turn for slots, but getting duds was the final straw for me.

Also when I left I tried to request that we all increase slots to make sharing nicer for fairness. I was shouted down at as not begging enough to get favors for slots. This isn't my style.

When I first started DSL, DC was great, but for me it's had it's time. Other will like it, as it's close to lan file swaping as in you get a hard drive list. I don't have a problem with Kazaa/eMule type file system as it promotes people sharing zips/ installers / complete files.. rather than hoping the files have their correct file stamps(read only etc..) and all the parts are available to a directory. It's very bad practice to share folders, as people want the compete item so they cna install.
