Firewalling Success

Unread post by Porkster » Tue Mar 11, 2003 4:49 pm

Since I don't have a firewall/router is there anyone that can post their settings that have had success with our Shareaza group? This is for others that aren't in the advanced user category.

Port :6346 is used for the client conversations but this is both UDP and TCP based. The other port used is 80 which should already be open for your localhost since it's your web browsing port.

So open both of these for bi-directional traffic.

PUBLIC port 6346 for TCP on IP of your computer (used for important transactions)
PUBLIC port 6346 for UDP on IP of your computer (used for searching)

* PUBLIC meaning, your inbound ports will accept and give ICMP information which is the way see open ports.

A restart is needed on most hardware routers.

I have a dedicated Smoothwall firewall / gateway box.

I opened both, 6346 & 20300, for UDP and TCP. I've also forwarded those ports to a specific IP on the LAN.

For those people out there (if any) who are running a Smoothwall gpl box out there, don't forget to grab the latest update that fixes the recent SSH issue.
