LucasFilm Files New Star Wars Trademarks

The house that Lucas built has filed for a handful of new trademarks, all Star Wars related, all potentially new names for the oft-rumored Knights of the Old Republic 3, the one that continues to pop up as a new BioWare developed MMO. LucasFilm recently filed trademark applications for Star Wars The Old Republic, The Old Republic, Star Wars Sagas and Star Wars Legends, all of are described as "video game software" and "entertainment services provided on-line by means of global and local area networks."

While that certainly sounds like a new Star Wars MMO and it all matches up nicely with what we've heard from former LucasArts employees, we'll call it rumor for now.

Or the trademarks could be for the new star wars live action tv series. I read somewhere that a couple of episodes will be old republic related.

The document filed with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office rules that out. In the Goods And/Or Services section, where the product to be offered is described, we see the following:

Interactive entertainment software and accompanying instruction manuals sold as a unit, namely computer game software and manuals sold as a unit, video game software and manuals sold as a unit; video game software, computer game software, and pre-recorded CD-ROMs and DVDs featuring games, films, music, computer game software, and video game software; downloadable video game software and downloadable computer game software...

Entertainment services provided on-line by means of global and local area networks, namely, providing interactive computer game software, interactive video game software and interactive computer games and interactive video games, all on-line by means of global and local area networks; providing news and information programming in the field of entertainment relating to interactive computer game software and interactive video game software over an electronic network; providing news programming in the field of entertainment relating to science fiction over an electronic network; fan club services.

Methinks this is finally the "smoking gun" confirming a new Star Wars MMORPG. The question now: Will it be made by Bioware or SOE?

This post in the official boards linked to a Gamespot article that was posted a while back. The quoted section said that...

We haven't revealed any details about the game. It's super secret right now. It's got all the characters and story arc that BioWare is known for, and I wish I could say more. It's the best of breed of MMO, with the magic BioWare's associated with, and our goal is to make sure people can't stop playing it.
