Not quite from scratch. It's a test center, and they've implemented a variant of the Blue Frogs, in the form of Jawa traders. They're scattered around the main hubs on Tatooine. I found a couple last night in Anchorhead, for example: one along the wall in front of the shuttleport, and another in front of the cantina. You also start with 100k credits and all the vehicles, including the ones that were given as vet rewards with the Combat Upgrade, surprisingly.swalmy wrote:You have to start from scratch?
They're also doing intensive testing of several combat skills, so the Jawa Traders can deck you out as an instant Master whatever. Heh... I set Hakimo up as a TKM, and promptly got his ass kicked by a dewback.

It's gotten more seamless since they came up with the Launchpad Enhanced. Basically, all you have to do is make sure you have an install using the retail client's game discs, then download the LPE from The Wild Clan's hosting page, then launch the Launchpad. Supposedly, everything proceeds automatically from there -- patch downloads, shortcut configuration, etc.Toucan wrote:yeah always meant to give the emu a blast, how do you get it?
And yeah, Hakimo is on Core3, the SWGEmu Team's test server, which currently is the only server available.

Here's a hyperlink to a page that's keeping track of the various features to be implemented, and their state of implementation as follows:
1.Packet work finished
2.Preliminary coding has begun.
3.Preliminary coding is done, and groundwork is in place to begin detailed refining.
4.Feature is ready to be implemented and is probably in internal testing on private Core3 Servers.
5.Feature has been implemented for public testing on SWGEmu Test Center.
They're keeping it somewhat up-to-date....

There is no crafting currently, so you have to loot or use the frog. Crafting isnt far off though.
They have only just got creature lairs in the game, so most creatures were just randomly placed.
XP isnt implemented yet, so you cant grind, you have to train via the frog.
It's got a little ways to go.

They say it is not. Players have to buy the retail client software, but there's no reason they have to hook it up to SOE's servers. And so the SWG-EMU project is all about building the server side from scratch.Ucctar-Lexlo wrote:Isn't what they're doing illegal?
As for the Star Wars intellectual property, it seems the Lucas empire is looking on this project in the same fashion as all the makers of fan films: As long as they are making a free product and aren't trying to profit off the IP, Lucas is letting them do their thing.

BTW, I put together a guide to pre-CU Creature Handling, and the mods made it a sticky!

The use of a retail version of the client is a REQUIREMENT. Absolutely NO HACKED 14-DAY TRIAL-ONLY DOWNLOADS ALLOWED. In fact, I think the new Launchpad Enhanced launcher scans your files to make sure your version of the SWG client is a legitimate retail copy. It doesn't matter which version of the retail client you use. Any version will work, from the original 3-disc set minus the JTL expansion pack, to the latest version of The Complete Adventure from whatever bargain bin you find it in.Tareel wrote:They don't let you download the game. You have to an original copy of SWG, all the programming on their end is said to be original, since all the rendering is done on the consumers end.
Basically, this is still in what I would consider a fairly early-beta stage of development, with many features still in the process of being re-implemented one-by-one. For example, the height-mapping technology needed for properly positioning characters inside buildings was only recently finished, and it looks like it still needs some refining in the general game environment. I saw quite a few critters floating in midair last night. Also, creature lairs have not yet been pushed to the live server, although I think I saw a note saying the coding for them has been completed. Certain non-combat professions and features (such as the Scout/Ranger/Creature Handler cluster and the Bioengineer profession) are awaiting completion of the core combat professions and the mob database before work begins on those professons' specific features such as pet taming and tissue harvesting. But the pace of the work being done has really picked up noticeably since the team completed their construction of a stable core, especially since taking the project back to open-source status.
So at this point, the Emu server is primarily there for us to use as a bug-hunting tool.

By the way, I've been fleshing out some pre-CU creature info in the SWGEmu Creature Handler forums, but I can't find very much info on what types of lairs are used by which creatures. If any of you current SWG subscribers feel like making a note of which lairs (you know, things like "a dead log" or "a pile of rocks") are associated with a species or three of creatures, I would be most grateful....
