i'm dropping the cash on a ps3 this weekend
now if you know what your doing with them, you can run linux on them, and in turn a windows emulator, and in turn again, SWG

anyone know how on gods green earth you get linux and windows on it when your a complete muppet who doesn't know what mp3 stands for?

Er well, first things first.
Buy the chepo PS3 and upgrade the HD, the HD is a fairly standard notebook HD go get a 100Gb

I'll post guide links at the end of the post.

You will need to get the PS3 release of Ubantoo and I believe install a special loader on the PS3, I'll post a guid link on how to install linux on a PS3.

To run SWG you need to run it in 'Wine' under linux, it does run quite well and the latest version of wine has solved some of its problems.

Upgrade PS3 HD: http://uk.gamespot.com/features/6176090/index.html

This is as good a guide as any to installing Linux on a PS2
http://news.softpedia.com/news/Ubuntu-7-10-on-PS3-73272.shtml

Use the latest version of Ubantu for the PS3, the guide was written some time ago.

If you get this far, well done! I have no idea on how to run SWG under wine, I'll look at if you get linux running.

The chances of running SWG on a PS3 under wine are pretty remote, as the PS3 doesn't have an x86 cpu. Wine isn't an emulator, it just translates windows API calls to X api calls (basically) it doesn't emulate a CPU.

Give it a try, it might work, but I highly doubt it.

SWG works fine under wine on a normal Linux PC though =)

That is correct, but it could be done via the emulator, I suspect it will be very slow though.

so bottom line is it's not worth the grief?

only reason i wanted to do it is to lay pc games on the ps3. if it's going to be crap then there is not much point
