need a new tv show to watch
i never watch tv
i cant be bothered planning times to watch/record programs, only to get an ad break every 5-10 mins
so when something comes along i wanna see, i wait for the dvd and buy it
plus i like to sit down and watch as much as i can in one sitting, my latest conquest was season one of heroes in one go
i need some fresh meat
currently i have (all thats available to buy....)
all the star trek's
24
new dr who
lost
heroes
the simpsons
futurama
the sopranos
rome
south park
my name is earl
boston legal
the shield (just season 1, didn't like it)
just now i'm deciding between stargate sg1 and babylon 5. i've never seen either of them but the stargate film was classic. i avoided the tv at the start due to the actors being replaced (especially james spader, who i'm loving in boston legal, along with kirk, odo and 7 of 9)
any other suggestions?
my inner geek is also thinking about smallville
my taste as you can see is pretty varied, so i'm open to try anything
i got new boston legal and my name is earl out this month, then a bit of a dry patch
and not the x-files
i tried them about 18 months ago, bought the 1st 5 seasons for a pitance, then gave them away coz they bored me

Babylon 5. I have the whole series on DVD. The characters on the show are likeable and the storyline is interesting. The ship designs and custumes are top notch for a show that wasnt on a mainstream channel station.
The only shows (non comical) that ive ever got into are:
Babylon 5
Voyager
Lost
Heroes
Probably missing 1 or 2.
I dont like having to be bothered w/ watching a show every wednesday at 8pm for example. If I ever miss an episode, I wont want to it watch anymore. With DVD's, it makes it much more pleasureable to watch TV shows.

I'd go with Farscape, Dead Like Me, Stargate Atlantis and Stargate SG-1. In that order. The TV series of Stargate surpasses the movie - so much so that the movie is hard to watch now-a-days.
Babylon 5 was good until the last series but you have to suspend any need for quality dialogue and I don't think it has dated particularly well. I also wouldn't touch Smallville with a barge pole. I know people love it but I found it boring. Since you like The Shield, you might enjoy Third Watch. It's been cancelled now but went on for about 5 series and it was absolutely cracking telly. I don't usually go much on law/cop shows but Third Watch was excellent.
Editing to add Alias and The Dead Zone.

Gelfling has some great choices. Stargate TV is like Buffy TV, far surpasses the movie. Third Watch was my favorite show, I was sad to see it go. Smallville is good IMHO, but you will learn to hate Lana Lang and forget whatever you know of the Superman Mythos. Babylon 5 wasn't too bad. How about Family Guy? Very irrevent but super funny.
actually one thing pushing me towards smallville is my complete lack of knowledge of superman
i've seen the films, but thats it
i only really started gettting into comicy stuff in the past year or so, so the majority of the material is virgin lands to me
and i didnt really like the shield, cop dramas arent really my thing either
i saw a box set of ALL of sg1 for £200........ very tempting

Make your DVD player code free (very easy to do) and order it from the states. I am partail to Smallville, I love it, own all 6 seasons and very much hate Lana Lang.
my dvd players a sony and has a built in 5.1 surround sound amp. i've looked into making it region free and it's not as simple as cheap dvd players are
model number is "Sony DAV-DZ100" if anyone knows about these things
saying that i'll probably be replacing it with a similar bluray set up soon
but thats just for awesome films like star wars and transformers

Sony have always been fairly strict on their region control and copy protection. Usually people who like to share disks around avoid sony

go with babylon 5, the first season is boring, but sets up the story and then half way through season 2 it gets interesting. Worth watching, chekov from star trek is in it playing one of the evil psycorp (an internal gestapo style dept within the babylon 5 universe).
Sg1 is good, but becomes very samey and boring.

The new Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles gets my vote as the new series to watch this season as well. On DVD, you may want to keep an eye out for the Young Indiana Jones Chronicles, released for Christmas '07. Been years since I saw any of them on network TV, and I only stumbled across a couple of episodes, but what I saw impressed me as not only being the equals to the movies in quality, but possibly surpassing them.
