Multisource client.

Unread post by Porkster » Mon Feb 24, 2003 3:15 am

Ok, you guys know I would post something like this..

if you goto http://tassyp2p.tripod.com/

There is an alternative P2P client going that has more features including multi sourcing downloads. We cover all ISP's but you can choose who you want to allow to share with by using a rules/firewall system within the client. So if you want to get the files quick to your friends and leave you bandwidth for gaming and other things then come and try out.

Ahahaha!

We knew you'd be around sometime. :D

Seriously though, I don't see why this can't be a Tassie P2P news/information forum.

All release news welcome :)

Just a note, Porkster isnt able to post in the private section for BCDC downloads etc, as he doesnt use the DC hub, but if there are enough people here using shareaza i will make the same section for them.

so let me know if you all use shareaza

i tried, followed porksters instructions, etc. but it didnt work for me... time'd out when connecting, unable to connect, etc. etc. - probably because of my router...

also keep in mind that any transfers on porkster's shareza hub probably wont be free traffic - anyone can connect to it as I understand.

so you will be shaped or charged if you go over your limit.

But Phil if you follow his instructions you impose IP boundaries, so only Netspace users show up on the hub.

I did have similar problems to other people, so maybe we need to kick start a multisourcing program THAT WORKS.

Anyone looking into this yet? Emule or whatever?

I was looking into other alternatives and the majority of people on the hub said they were happy with DC - who am I to argue.

The usefullness of multisourcing is debatable anyway with such a small community.

Well I see it as a good idea because even though it's a small community we are all sharing the same files really. And a 6k DC connection is just crap compared to what good multisourcing could do for us.

Anyway I don't want to start an argument and go the porkster way, but I think we should look into it!

yes a multisouce one that works would be great, i constantly an getting no slots avalible, and i always have somone uploading of me, problem is it always seems to be someone different, so heaps of people are going to have heaps of bits of files from me (i store mine in rars). anyway its not very effective, but hey im getting about a gig a day, and thats a lot better than telstra

Yep, Phyc I agree, but it's been pointed out that it's mainly for dc/NS.

You have to understand, it's not mine. it's ours. The small factor of who has put some effort into it isn't important to me it's functionality.

I have turned off downloading alot since cutting games playing but when I do want a download, I want it fast. Fast enough so that it not chewing on my bandwidth for days. For me it's easier to download using allocation then wait for a slot and download of single sourcing dc.

At the moment the shareaza idea is still in testing mode, not all areas have been tested. we had a guy in that has is own crisco router and it works fine behind a proper setup router firewall.

Also I have rewriten the way shareaza discovers peoples IPs in the PHP script. http://cgi-bin.spaceports.com/~tassy/gcache.php

If people are interested in testing it out then come in.. if it takes off then I'm happy at any stage to hand over any controlling factors to phil to manage.

Btw, all file shares are withing the limits you want. you control the ISP's int he client, so you can turn off other ISP or have them on.. So yes all downloads are free with the tassy netspace rule on.

no pork ill explain it again.. slower

its for NETSPACE.. not for bigpond etc.. so dont ask me again

its for NETSPACE P2P which is free transfer..

not just for DC

i said you canhave your own forum for shareaza if its got enough support, but no one ever replied to that thread, so there ya go. :)

if we have people using emule, then there will be an emule forum.

but its only for NETSPACE TASMANINA
others are free to read the general forums though and sign up if they wish.
but im not including other isp.. that be like having a quake forum with CS server listings.

now i believe emule server is a little basic to be setup correctly, im not sure as i havent really looked into it, but if someone does, let us know.
I have too much goind on to bother with it myself.

Yes, most likely the router settings. The client needs to be able to PUSH on the router ports if you choice to firewall. port 6346/+udp

We have only had about 5 people in at time and also when there are NS/Telstra drops which are freq lately, the numbers die. So finding people can be a problem in itself.
