Sorting out my shares.

Dear All,

I am really sorry for all the trouble i have caused with my shares. As you might already know, my shares are (primarily) mapped from my flat mates computers directly (with their permission of course). However the inherent problem with this setup is that when they turn their machines off, i lose the shares, and dont met the 5GB minimum.

The problem is, they dont tell me exactly when they turn their machines of, so sometimes my DC++ might hammer the server trying to connect, when i dont have the minimum requirement.

I did read the information you sent to me privately (anach), and i implemented it, but i dont understand how it will solve my problem.

What i need is something that as soon as my flat mates turn off their machines, and the minumum is no longer met by me, DC ++ will automatically disconnect, and it wont automatically hammer the server for reconnection.

Some insight into this matter would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers,

Jacob Field

Ok, the way suggested to edit your xml was just to make it more stable, but if your shares are being turned off, there is not much you can do really. Other than get them to leave it on.
or get your own HDD.

Yeah i sort of figured that. There is no setting somewhere in DC++ that automatically stops automatic reconnection, if share minimums are not meet?

Not to my knowledge.

If you are failing to connect, eventually DC++ will decide there is no internet connection and give up, but in this case you are successfully connecting, being booted, reconnecting, ad infiniteum.

The solution would seem to be to either increase your local share or make arrangements with your flatmate to leave his machine on 24/7. Surely he enjoys the advantages of being connected (if by proxy) to NStashub?

so you dont have 5 gig free on your machine? the easy way out of it is to share 5 gig off your machine, and the rest off your flatmates..that way you will meet the min share requirement even if their pcs are off.
