AUSTRALIAN actor Nicole Kidman has branded as "alarming" claims that her latest fantasy film The Golden Compass promotes atheism.

The film, which is based on Philip Pullman's best-selling novel of the same name, has been attacked by the US-based Catholic League for being anti-Christian and promoting "atheism for kids".

I really should start complaining about movies which I dont believe promote atheism or agnosticism....

Anyone who has read the stories, knows what they are about. Philip Pullman has written three magnificent tales and they really are well worth the time.

I had the privilege of meeting Philip Pullman when he came to Bristol to read from The Amber Spyglass, shortly after it was published. My impression of him is that he is a very intelligent man with a genuine love of real story-telling.

If you haven't read these tales, please do treat yourself :) As you open the pages of The Northern Lights (called The Golden Compass in North America) you truly are entering the world of a real story.
"Let your love flow outward through the universe,
To its height, its depth, its broad extent,
A limitless love, without hatred or enmity."
