Tremors shake up parts of Wales

Minor earth tremors struck parts of north and mid Wales on Friday night.

The British Geological Survey reported that the 43-second tremors reached a magnitude of 2.9 and were centred on Denbighshire at about 2205 GMT.

However, police and fire service received no calls about them, and there are no reports of injuries or damage.

Heledd Roberts, of Corwen, felt the tremors while in a friend's house and said: "The mirror above the fireplace was really shaking."

Ms Roberts, who was with Ceris Williams, said the ornaments and a TV fixed to the wall also shook.

"The thing that made us more aware was that the cat went really strange. She had the wobbles and she couldn't walk properly for a couple of seconds".

The British Geological Survey said the tremors were focused on Llangollen, and there are reports that they were also felt in Llanrhaeadr, Powys.

North Wales is said to be one of the most active regions in the UK for earthquakes, and the latest seems not to have created too much alarm.

Ms Roberts joked: "My wine glass was moving on the table - that's what I was worried about.

"I wasn't going to lose my glass of Chardonnay for anyone."
