So it's been two years

It's been about two years since the massive SWG changes. Tons of people left the game at that time. Some to never return. Others eventually came back. Noobs came with hopes of a Star Wars experience.

My question is, at this point does SWG have a larger population today then it would have today if SOE/LA never made the changes? Would the population gains out weight the attrition?

I realize Im asking for speculation but take a stance.

All I can say is that there were some good changes coming in just before the NGE.

There were major weaknesses in the preNGE game, one of the most glaring was the lack of a proper noob game, like the legacy quest.

If they had addressed the weaknesses of the CU, then yes I think SWG would be in a much stronger position that it is now.

The general consensus in the offical forum is that if they spent 2 years on the CU, we'd have an awesome game. Of course I agree :)

if the game sucks so bad, why still play it?

the past week i've really missed the diversity of pre cu
right now if i could hybrid an officer and a medic, i'd be happy
7 combat profs isn't enough, i want something else

I would have to agree with Toucan, I know, I know, but I miss my TKM/ Doc...
I still think Jedi should have to be earned, the village quests where fun, and the new collection system is just like the old Gurk grinds, you have to kill a million creatures to get something...
I like the new instances though, a bit of a challenge...

This combined with what Toucan wrote, sums up the way I feel. If SOE/LA had continued with the plans they were putting into place just before the game was NGE'd, I believe, we really would have an absolutely cracking game.

I absolutely missing the diversity and complex combining we had. I want to play my Doc/Pikester again and I want the original crafting system back. SWG is miles better than it was since Helios and co. left but it's nowhere near as good as it would have been if the NGE had never happened at all.

Surely many more players if they had stuck with CU and worked onward from there. Not only would we not have lost almost everyone with the NGE launch, but many of those that left with the CU would have surely been back. If they had put as much effort into the CU as they are now with the NGE, we could have had the best bits of preCU/CU and a load of new stuff to go with it.

Still after two years, the NGE still has a broken combat system (Specials misfiring, too fast, no animations, broken carbines, horrible targetting), and still after all this time, the community is still asking for preNGE systems. Which when they bring something back, is the only time SWG becomes fun again.

We are certainly no better off than we were in terms of balance or gameplay.

Only reason is my wife still plays. Thats it. Once a real good MMO comes out I'll convince her to change games.

As of now I figured I'll log in to craft. So I harvest resources and craft stuff since im paying $30 a month for it.

My wife hates the changes to the game also. She doesnt even use her combat toon anymore either. She is still attached to her city (Mayor) and all the friends she has there.

We did quit for about 3 or 4 months but I came back when they had that free subscription period. Ooopps.

No NGE. The NGE drove players away and halted all the recommendations. The game was getting better from week to week with more good things on the way when the NGE was sprang on everyone.

If the NGE had actually been great fun, that would have been different. But being different was the problem. It was too different in every respect and far too simple. What we got in November 2005 was not suitable for a PC game aimed at teenagers through to adults. In my opinion it was aimed at kids and was best suited for single-player game. There was just no need to group or even enter into co-operative play with the early NGE.
