An interview with the Game Director here

To its height, its depth, its broad extent,
A limitless love, without hatred or enmity."

I'd say it has a strong chance to. The M rating may limit the subscriber population, but the game itself looks great. I love a talented team that is willing to take risks on something it believes in and then polish the product off to create something new and fun. Of course, no one has really played it yet, but the screens and videos I've seen are great looking.
The team seems to say in every interview that they want to seperate themselves from the rest of the crowded MMO community not by pulling in WoW-like numbers of subscribers, but by simply releasing a unique game with a spirit unlike all the others. Usually, when I read a Dev interview, they talk about how much they play and enjoy WoW (the Vanguard team) or how they are going to compete with WoW (the WAR team in almost everything I've read). I don't like WoW and I don't want to play games that steal from its mechanics or appearance. Focus groups would say that I'm part of the minority (which I am) but there are new players joining the MMO community every day and I'd much rather see them jump on to a game like Conan than something like WoW- and I think they'd have a better opinion of MMOs if they did that, providing the game is stable and support is excellent. Seeing all the fuss about the game on MMORPG.com makes me fear it may end up with a l33t type player base though, which kinda scares me.
I hope I don't psych myself up too much for it, but I've been yearning for a game to reel me in the way SWG did when I first started playing that game. SWG was my first MMO game and I was really into it, so I have a hard time keeping an open mind about everything I play now. Even with Vanguard, I've had to sit back and remind myself to keep an open mind about things.
Another thing I'm hoping to get with Conan is combat that doesn't feel repetitive like in so many MMOs. Lineage 2 is the worst case of this I have seen and SWG is pretty bad about it as well.
Anyways, this has become a madman's rant so I'll put a cork in it.
Later dudes!
