Vista 32 or 64 bit os?

Unread post by swalmy » Tue Oct 07, 2008 6:14 am

My wife's computer died yesterday which means I get a new one! Should I get vista 32 bit or 64 bit? What are the advantages and disadvatages of each?

And I know I should stay with XP blah blah blah but I've installed my copy on so many computers so many times, was just thinking about switching to the new os.

DX10. BTW, Ive never had a problem with Vista. If you have multi-core then you go 64 as I understand it.

The American people will never knowingly adopt Socialism. But under the name of 'liberalism' they will adopt every fragment of the Socialist program, until one day America will be a Socialist nation, without knowing how it happened.

Vista requires twice the RAM of XP. As far as 64/32, you will find that 64 has poor driver support for older hardware. Of course Vista supports DX10, but thats not much good unless you have a DX10 card.

So it really comes down to how new your Wife's PC is and whether you want it to look pretty, but perform slightly worse.

Xp still has a bit of life in it yet and i think ill wait for windows 7 before changing OS.

After reading up on the two I went with 32 bit vista mainly for the reasons istik said. My video card will be a nivda geforce GTX 280. I'll have 4 GB of DDR2-800 ram. Liquid cooling system. I didn't get the top of the line processer to save a few hundred dollars, I went with a intel core duo E8500 CPU @3.16 GHz and 1000W power supply. I can upgrade later.

It also came with age of conan (doubt I'll be using that), halo 2 and a cool t-shirt.

I should be set for a few years 8)
